50 Faces of the Holy Land Exhibition
We are hosting '50 Faces of the Holy Land,' an exhibition from 4th to 13th September featuring 50 portraits by photographer Marcin Mazur. The exhibition presents stories of faith, resilience, joy, and suffering from Israeli and Palestinian residents of the Holy Land, including Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Samaritan, and Druze communities. This is a chance to encounter the humanity behind the headlines and remember in prayer those affected by ongoing conflict.
Visitation of the National Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima and Relics of Saints Jacinta & Francisco
On Saturday, 12th September, the Diocese of Brentwood will host the visitation of the National Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima along with the relics of Saints Jacinta and Francisco. This unique Day of Prayer and Devotions includes veneration of the relics, Holy Mass concelebrated by Bishop Alan and priests, and the Consecration Prayer of the Diocese to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by Bishop Alan. Participants should bring a packed lunch; teas and coffees will be available. The afternoon features a Holy Hour with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, recitation of the Chaplet of Adoration and Reparation, communal rosary reflections, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, a docu-film and talk on the "Fatima Message for the World," and the Enrolment and Investiture of the Brown Scapular in the Parish Hall. We encourage all parishioners to participate in this wonderful day of prayer at the Cathedral.
Open House Festival at St Mary & St Joseph’s, Poplar
Open House Festival is a London-wide festival that opens up and celebrates the city’s built environment. Every year, buildings and other sites across all 33 London boroughs open to the public, so that Londoners can explore them for free. The 2026 festival will take place 12th – 20th September and will be the 35th edition. This year as last year, St Mary & St Joseph’s, Poplar, will take part in the scheme thanks to José who has organised this. Do spread the word. This is a great way of opening our doors and inviting people into our Church.
Ride & Stride 2026
Ride & Stride began in Suffolk in 1981 as a fund-raising bike ride and quickly became a national event. Over 30 counties now take part. Supported by the National Churches Trust and in partnership with county-based local churches trusts, Ride + Stride opens the doors to some of England’s most rare and unusual places of worship. The Friends of Essex Churches Trust strive to raise money to award grants to preserve and improve Christian places of worship of all denominations in Essex, including Southend-on-Sea, Thurrock, Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest. Half of the money you raise through Ride + Stride will return to your church, and half will go into the FECT account for grants to churches throughout the county. When is Ride + Stride? Saturday 12th September 2026 9am-5pm. Always the second Saturday in September. Who can take part? Absolutely everyone. From keen cyclists, hikers, families with young children, teenagers, the elderly, dog walkers - no one is prevented from participating. See poster at back of Churches.
A Day with Mary
Join us for a day devoted to prayer and devotion at St Aloysius Church, Euston. We'll celebrate Mass in honour of Our Lady with Canon Jeremy Trood as celebrant and preacher. Throughout the day, there is exposition, procession, rosary, sermons on Our Lady, silent adoration, consecration, and enrolments in the Brown Scapular and Miraculous Medal. Confession and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament are available throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch.
Catechists’ Course, Day 1: An Introduction to Catechesis and Practical Skills for Catechists
Join us for Day 1 of the diocesan Catechists' Course. Both sessions on this day are core sessions for all parish catechists and will refer to key passages in the Directory for Catechesis. The day is open to all catechists within the diocese, but please book in advance. An Introduction to Catechesis (morning session) will provide a simple introduction to the main principles and practicalities of catechesis. Practical Skills for Catechists (afternoon session) will provide concrete tools that can help catechists cope with the concerns that are a part of their ministry. Please bring a packed lunch. This is Day 1 of a three-day course; the other two days are 26 September and 17 October 2026.
Mini-Retreat Day: Discipleship Day on Fraternal Love and Correction
Join the Franciscan Friars for a Discipleship Day on Fraternal Love and Correction, exploring how we are called to love one another while also helping each other grow in holiness. Together we'll reflect on what genuine Christian fraternity asks of us, including how correction can be offered and received in love as part of the ongoing renewal of our lives in Christ. Open House Festival: Church Tour of Sacred Heart Wimbledon
This year, our church will be participating in the Open House Festival, a London-wide initiative that opens up and celebrates the city’s architecture. Trained guides will be available for tours, or visitors can pop in for an unescorted walk around. Spread the word: invite your neighbours and friends to come and discover our beautiful church on that day. We are delighted to welcome people with learning disabilities and their families to the Caritas St Joseph’s Club, a warm and supportive space for friendship, support, and fellowship. We meet on the second Saturday of each month at the Parish House, from 2pm to 4pm. Everyone is warmly welcome!
