Why It's Hard to Find Methodist Community

Methodist circuits run events across multiple churches, which can be confusing to track. And their young adult communities are often invisible to newcomers. Tersia brings them together so you can see everything in one place, from prayer groups and Bible studies to socials and outreach.

Adults considering becoming Catholic - Introductory Evening

Are you, or is someone you know, interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith and the process for being received into the Church? Were you baptised Catholic, but now seeking confirmation? You are warmly invited to an introductory evening to find out more on Thursday 10th September, 7:30pm in the hall. (This is a repeat of the session from the 11th June, so no need to come again if you attended that one.) Refreshments will be served. Weekly sessions will then continue from the 18th of September, 7:30pm. Please contact Kathy Ball, edmsutton@rcaos.org.uk

Ride & Stride 2026

Ride & Stride 2026

Ride & Stride began in Suffolk in 1981 as a fund-raising bike ride and quickly became a national event. Over 30 counties now take part. Supported by the National Churches Trust and in partnership with county-based local churches trusts, Ride + Stride opens the doors to some of England’s most rare and unusual places of worship. The Friends of Essex Churches Trust strive to raise money to award grants to preserve and improve Christian places of worship of all denominations in Essex, including Southend-on-Sea, Thurrock, Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest. Half of the money you raise through Ride + Stride will return to your church, and half will go into the FECT account for grants to churches throughout the county. When is Ride + Stride? Saturday 12th September 2026 9am-5pm. Always the second Saturday in September. Who can take part? Absolutely everyone. From keen cyclists, hikers, families with young children, teenagers, the elderly, dog walkers - no one is prevented from participating. See poster at back of Churches.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Introduction and Information Evening

I am calling the whole parish to see if there are any parishioners who may be interested in learning more about the Roman Catholic faith, possibly with the view of receiving the Easter Sacraments next Easter 2027. The RCIA is a programme of systematic instruction of all aspects of Catholicism. Examining the Sacred Scriptures – Old & New Testaments. Understanding the whole concept of God. The Incarnation of Jesus Christ – the Lord’s Mission and Teachings. The Gift of the Holy Spirit – Pentecost. The Sacramental Life of the Church – The 7 Sacraments (with special emphasis on the Eucharist). What is the Church – Origins, and the church in 21st Century. The Laws of the Church – Canon Law. The Four Last things – Death Judgement, Hell & Heaven. Sacramentals – The Rosary, Benedictions, the Lives of the Saints, other Catholic Devotions. The Role of the Virgin Mary in God’s plan of Salvation. β€œLord, teach us how to pray.” – Many different kinds of Prayer. The Doctrine of the Blessed Trinity. The Paschal Mystery. Journey through Holy Week. If you know anyone who may be interested in learning about the faith, please give them this information, and ask them to contact Fr John – Tel No: 01277 265235. He will be only too happy to sit down and explain the whole RCIA programme and how it works. The New Programme will commence with an Introduction and Information Evening on Thursday, 17 September. There are many non-Catholic spouses who attend Mass on a regular basis with their families, would you consider joining the programme in September?

Classical music concert for ALL

"If you are not a classical music aficionado or can not afford it ... ...then this concert is for you! No matter your background, knowledge of classical music, age, religion, you (and your children from the age of 0) are all welcome. Tickets are free. If you are an avid concert -goer and a classical music lover ... . . . then, this concert is also for you ! Distinguishing themselves in various international competitions and festivals for several years (Best Contemporary Interpretation Prize at the BANFF International String Quartet Competition 2022, Audience Prize at the Steels-Wilsing Competition 2020, and in the Verbier Festival 2019), the Quatuor Agate achieved a significant milestone in 2021 by becoming Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) artists in London. They have since become regular performers at London's Wigmore Hall. Chosen as an ECHO Rising Stars ensemble in 2024, they embarked on a tour of Europe's major concert halls for the 24/25 season. Lauded for their musicality and refreshing interpretations, the quartet performed internationally in 2026 with series of concerts in the USA, China, Germany and France. After these well acclaimed tours, on the 19th of September 2026, the quartet is giving a one-off unique concert in aid of our soup kitchen. We will be treated to a unique opportunity to hear a couple of pieces from their repertoire. Concert is free, if you can, donations in aid of Notre Dame de France's homeless soup kitchen ('Sandwich Service') are very much welcomed and encouraged."
