Speaker Bio and Talk Summary: Lord Griffiths of Fforestfach was educated at the London School of Economics, where he taught from 1965-76. In 1976, he was appointed Professor of Banking and International Finance at City University and served as Dean of the University’s Business School from 1982-85. He was a member of the Court of the Bank of England from 1983-85 and Head of the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit from 1985-90, where he played a major role in advising Mrs Thatcher and shaping domestic policy. On leaving 10 Downing Street, he was created a Life Peer. He has served as an international adviser to Goldman Sachs and as a member of the Board of Goldman Sachs International. He has also been Chairman of the Centre for Policy Studies, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lambeth Trust, and Christian Responsibility in Public Affairs. He has written and lectured extensively on economic issues and on the relationship between the Christian faith, business, and politics, and has published several books on monetary policy and Christian ethics. Drawing on insights from his career in politics and business, Lord Griffiths will discuss the challenges of relating the Christian faith to professional and public life. Doors to St Wilfrid's Hall will open at about 7.30pm. The talk starts at 7.45pm. After the talk, there will be some time for questions and discussion, concluding at around 8.45pm. After that, hot snacks and drinks (hotdogs and wine) will be available along with the opportunity to socialise until 10pm.
