About This Event

Train from Victoria to depart at 07:41. We aim to start the hike from Box Hill & Westhumble Station at 08:37. Hike itself will roughly take 4/4.5 hours, planning for a total of 5.5/6 hours including breaks, lunch, walk to and from the train station. Learning from the previous hike, I’ve booked an open return, for the flexibility of completing the hike at a comfortable or challenging pace. The Box Hill, Lodge Hill, and Juniper Hill Circular is a beautiful trail situated close to Mole Valley in the Surrey Hills AONB. The area is steeped on history, with the signs of human settlement stretching back as far as the Bronze Age. More recently, the area was crossed by a route known as the Pilgrims Way, a trail used by those on pilgrimage to the shrines of Thmomas Beckett and Swithun at Canterbury and Winchester. These days, Box Hill is a popular spot for those wishing to enjoy the variety of wildlife and wildflowers, and to escape London for the day. There are some steep sections, which can be occasionally muddy, so good stout footwear is required. It is also always a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket as the weather in Britain is never guaranteed. It is worth noting that barbeques are banned in the AONB due to the high risk of wildfires. Dogs are welcome on the trail, but should be kept on a lead to avoid any undue disturbance to local wildlife. There is a cafe at the trailhead, perfect for refreshments after a good walk. The nearby villages also offer a number of pubs and cafes to enjoy.
