Meet at London train station, time and location to be determined. 11:00 – Meet at Leigh‑on‑Sea Station. 11:10– Walk to Westcliff We will walk east by the estuary, following the Southend coastline. A relaxed 2.7‑mile seafront walk past Chalkwell, developed during the Victorian and Edwardian resort era. 12:30– Lunch at Rossis Family‑run since 1932, known for traditional Italian ice cream. 13:30– Walk to Southend Pier We will walk 1.25 miles along the promenade. 14:00–Walk Southend Pier At 1.33 miles, it’s the longest pleasure pier in the world, first opened in 1830 and rebuilt several times after fires and storms. Buy a Pier Entrance and Train ticket at £7.70 We will have tea and cake at the bd of the pier 15:30– Catch the Pier Train Back The electric pier railway dates from 1890 and remains one of the oldest still operating. Rolling stock replaced a few years ago with brand new trains. 16:00 Southend Pier Museum Covers the pier’s history, including original rolling stock and Victorian artefacts. 16:30–18:00 – Drinks & Food at the Palace Hotel Bar - one of the best elevated views of the pier and estuary. Trains home: Southend Central (c2c) or Southend Victoria (Greater Anglia).
